Blob Volley Reloaded
Introduction
Blob Volley Reloaded was the first full game I developed. It started as a school project Stephan Dreyer and I worked on together and we decided to continue development to enter into the 2013 Crossmedia Festival competition where we won the second place.
The game is a recreation of the freeware classic Blobby Volley, with the addition of multiple playable characters, each with a unique special ability that can be charged by repeatedly hitting the ball and used to tip the scales of a match, as well as various visual environments and statistic tracking.
Development
We developed the game in class and in our free time over the course of a month using only Java and implemented our own game architecture, physics system, simple AI and database to maximize our learning during the project. While the result is far from flawless, we created a fun and addictive competitive game and learned a lot during its development.
My Role
I programmed majority of the game from scratch, including base architecture, game logic including rules and states, physics for ball, players and collisions, player movement, all special abilities, sound logic, menus and UI.
Additionally I created all the graphics, which were mostly modelled using Blender and rendered to PNGs.
